'The choir was a great lifter when the fields fell silent'

Mervyn Kelso is a dairy farmer. He felt very sad when his cows got sick. All his cows had bovine TB, so they had to go. The fields became empty and quiet. This made Mervyn feel lonely.

To feel better, Mervyn joined a choir. Singing with others helped him a lot. The choir made him happy again. It was a good way to forget about the empty fields.
